is it making you or are you making it?

what the heck is he talking about? is probably what you are thinking when you look at the title of this post. i get it from the following song by the late rich mullins, which is one of my favorites by this great christian artist.

Creed (Rich Mullins)
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only begotten Son, our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried

CHORUS:
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not
The invention of any man

I believe that He who suffered
Was crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and
On the third day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where
He sits at God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning to
Judge the quick and the dead
Of the sons of men

CHORUS

I believe it, I believe it
I believe it
I believe it, I believe it

I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son,
Our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church, the communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends

CHORUS

I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe
I believe it, I believe it

to often when we go to read our Bibles we have an agenda. like we are looking to prove our point in an argument with someone, or our own political agenda or to agree with a pet doctrine that we may have, etc. but when we go to the Bible we should be going to find out how it can change us or make us a better christian, not to make it fit into who we are already. the Bible is God's love letter to us and when we sit down to read it, we need to come into with that kind of a mindset.

if you have never heard this song i encourage you to pick up this great album and listen to it and when you go to read your Bible let the chorus ring in your head.
